Most business owners know branding matters in a vague sort of way, but pinning down the actual return? That’s harder. And so they underinvest, they wait, they throw something together in Canva that they don’t love and keep telling themselves they’ll fix it later.
I’ve seen what that costs them. And I want to break it down properly in this blog.

Research shows that businesses showing up visually consistently (meaning their social media, their website, their graphics, all feel cohesive) can see revenue increases of up to 33%. That number lines up with what I see in my own business and in my students’ businesses too. When your brand looks consistent and intentional, your audience don’t have to second-guess you. They don’t have to wonder if they can trust you. They just trust.
And the inverse is just as true. A pixelated logo, inconsistent colours across platforms, a website that feels dated… these are signals that create hesitation. People don’t consciously think “I don’t trust this business.” They just move on.
I’ll be honest. I get a lot of cold outreach myself. If someone sounds even slightly interesting, the first thing I do is Google them. And if something doesn’t look right… my brain goes nope. That’s your brand working against you before you’ve had a chance to say anything.
When your brand is strong, it does something beyond looking good. It attracts the right people and repels the wrong ones. I think of it as a pull effect: your ideal client sees something and feels immediately drawn to it, without knowing exactly why.
I had a client message me after her rebrand. A new client had signed up for her high-ticket coaching program and said the branding was one of the only things she’d seen before deciding to reach out. No freebie, no referral, no lengthy sales process. The brand did the work.
Another client relaunched her brand and, within that first day, had people joining her email list without even having a freebie on offer, and a new client worth several thousand dollars.
I share these stories because I think we forget how powerful visuals are on the human brain. We put it down to “looking pretty” when it’s so much more than that.
There’s a secondary effect of strong branding that often goes unmentioned, and it’s this: when your brand looks professional, people question your pricing less.
Think about it from a consumer perspective. If you saw a high-ticket offer presented alongside design that looked thrown together, you’d probably wonder why they were charging that much.
It’s a subconscious response to the visual cues in front of you. Poor design creates friction, and friction makes people hesitate, negotiate, or walk away.
When my brand, and my students’ brands, communicate “I know what I’m doing,” the price becomes a lot easier to say yes to. I want that for every business owner who’s actually brilliant at what they do but isn’t getting the conversions to match.

This is the one I really want to talk about. Because it’s not just about how your audience perceives your brand. It’s about how YOU feel about it.
When I first started my business, I was at a networking event and someone asked for my Instagram handle. And I hesitated. I felt embarrassed. Me – a professional graphic designer – embarrassed by my own brand.
I was hiding. I was shrinking because I didn’t want to be seen.
And I see this in so many business owners I work with. They make a graphic they’re not proud of and they just don’t post it. They keep telling themselves they’ll fix the branding later. But every day they wait, they’re choosing not to be seen.
Here’s what I know for sure: the more you show up, the more your business grows. But if every time you show up you don’t feel confident about it, it’s going to feel harder and harder. When you have a brand you love, you post more. You share more. You hand over your Instagram handle without flinching. And that compounds.
