Hey there, lovely humans! If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Is it okay for my brand to look similar to others in my industry?” or “How can I differentiate my brand without being too different?” then you’re in the right place. In this episode of Seriously in Business, we delved into the tips and tricks to make your brand shine while still fitting in with your industry. So, let’s dive in!
When thinking about your visual brand, it’s crucial to consider three main things. Firstly, it should represent what you do. For example, if you’re a florist, your brand should visually convey the essence of floristry – think soft yellows and gentle pinks. Next, it should draw in your ideal client. Understand who your audience is and tailor your designs to attract them. Lastly, your brand should differentiate you from others in your industry. This is where you can really stand out and make an impact.
Let’s bust a common myth – looking similar to others in your industry is not necessarily a bad thing. Take the example of fast-food chains, with their predominant use of red, orange, and yellow. Even though they use similar colour schemes, we don’t get them confused because they have other elements that differentiate them. The same goes for your brand – using industry-appropriate visuals helps your audience quickly recognise and understand what you do.
So, how can you stand out while fitting into your niche? Here are four tips:
Start by understanding what others in your industry are doing. This will help you avoid creating an identical brand while also identifying patterns and vibes that resonate with your business. Don’t linger here too long. Once you’ve done this initial research, leave looking at your competitors in the past. It often only leads to comparison and frustration.
Ask yourself questions about how you want your business to come across. Do you want it to feel luxurious, relatable, or something else entirely? Your answers to these questions will shape your brand in a unique way as you choose fonts, colours and design styles that represent your answers visually.
Don’t limit yourself to your own industry when seeking design inspiration. Look to other fields and businesses for creative ideas that can be adapted and infused into your brand.
If you’re the face of your business, don’t shy away from embracing a personal brand. Showcasing yourself in your branding adds a layer of authenticity that can’t be replicated by anyone else. Let your brand reflect your essence and values, making it a one-of-a-kind representation of what you stand for.
By following these tips, you can create a brand that not only captures your audience’s attention but also leaves a lasting impression. So, don’t be afraid to infuse your brand with your unique identity and style!
