Overworking, procrastination, fear of showing up… all of these could be symptoms of underlying self-worth fears and worries inside us.
But you’re not alone. If you’re like many of us small business owners, you may have struggled with feelings of self-doubt or imposter syndrome at some point in your journey. It’s not uncommon to feel like you’re not good enough or that you have to constantly prove your worth in order to be “successful”.
But what if we told you that you’re already worthy, just as you are? In a recent podcast interview, our guest Sam Dhu shared some powerful insights about the importance of recognizing and embracing our inherent worth.
According to Sam, our worth isn’t something you have to earn or prove through your accomplishments or success. It’s something you already have, simply because you exist as a human being. Think about it, a newborn baby has so much worth, even before it’s done ANYTHING to “earn” it.
This may sound like a simple concept, but it’s one that many of us struggle with. We may believe that our worth is tied to our productivity, our work, how much our business makes, how our recent launch went or our Instagram following. But in reality, these external factors don’t define our worth. It’s something that’s already inside us, waiting to be acknowledged and celebrated.
So, how can we start to shift our mindset and embrace our inherent worth? One key step is to recognize that self-worth is not something we have to earn. It’s already there, inside us. We can choose to acknowledge and honour that worth, rather than constantly striving to prove ourselves.
Another important step is to practice self-compassion and kindness. We may be our own harshest critics, but treating ourselves with the same compassion and understanding that we offer to others can help us build a stronger sense of self-worth.
Ultimately, embracing our inherent worth can have a powerful impact on our businesses and our lives. When we recognize that we’re already worthy, we can approach our work with greater confidence and authenticity. We can let go of the pressure to constantly prove ourselves and instead focus on creating value and making a difference.
So, if you’re struggling with feelings of self-doubt or imposter syndrome, remember that you’re not alone. But also remember that your worth is already there, waiting to be acknowledged and celebrated. Take a deep breath, practice self-compassion, and remember that you’re worthy, just as you are (your business, and the way you show up going forward, will thank you for it).
