Can I be honest with you?
In 2026, good visuals aren’t optional anymore. And I don’t mean “everything has to be aesthetic and pretty and beige.”
I mean… people are deciding whether they trust you before they’ve read a single word.
Before they read your caption, listen to your podcast or click your website.
They see your graphics…and decide.
So if you’ve been relying on Canva templates to carry your brand, thinking that’s enough to look professional… I just want to gently say, that might be where you’re getting stuck.

Have you ever watched MasterChef and thought, “I could absolutely do that”?
You watch them drizzle the olive oil, throw in the fancy ingredients, plate it up beautifully… and you feel wildly confident.
Then you try it at home.
And it’s… not the same.
Not because you’re bad at cooking, but because you don’t know why they did what they did.
You don’t know what temperature the oil needed to be, why that ingredient was added at that exact moment, the ins and outs that make a dish what it is.
That’s what I see happening with Canva templates.
You buy this beautiful Canva template. Swap in your brand colours, change the fonts, update the text. Then you look at it and think…
Why does this look worse?
You did everything “right.”, but something feels off.
It’s because nobody taught you design principles.

Look, I get it.
You’re busy. You don’t want to sit in Canva for three hours adjusting margins.
You don’t want to outsource and spend thousands.
You just want something that works.
Templates feel efficient, and promise a professional look quickly.
But here’s the catch…
Templates show you what something looks like when it works.
They don’t teach you why it works.
So when you:
The structure starts to fall apart. And because you don’t know the design rules behind it, you can’t see what broke.
There was a time when just looking “put together” was enough.
Now?
Professional is the baseline.
AI can generate decent graphics in seconds, build websites and create logos.
So your audience isn’t thinking, “Oh wow, this looks nice.” But subconsciously think, “Does this feel trustworthy?”
And that decision happens in milliseconds.
If your design feels cluttered, inconsistent, slightly messy, or hard to read, they don’t analyse it.
They just scroll.
And every scroll is someone who didn’t stay long enough to see how good you actually are.
That’s the bit that frustrates me.
Because you are good at what you do, but your design just isn’t showing that yet.

When your graphics don’t feel professional:
And when confidence drops, consistency usually goes with it.
And when consistency drops… your business growth slows.
Design is a skill.
Hierarchy, contrast, spacing and balance… all these design principles, can be learned.
When you know what to look for, everything shifts.
Instead of thinking, “Something’s off,” you can ask:
You stop guessing.
And when you stop guessing, you start feeling confident.
And confidence makes showing up so much easier.
I am not anti-template.
I use them.
I design them.
I teach with them.
But if you don’t yet know the foundations, here’s one simple rule:
Don’t touch the layout. Keep the structure, proportions and text roughly the same length.
Then customise your colours, your fonts, your brand elements.
Structure is what makes a design work.
Respect the structure, and you’ll instantly improve your results while you build your skills.

In 2026, good visuals aren’t optional.
But neither is understanding how they work.
You don’t need to become a designer. You just need enough knowledge to make sure your visuals reflect the level of expertise you already have.
