Your sales page is one of the most powerful tools in your course launch toolbox. But here’s the thing: just having one isn’t enough. In this episode, I sat down with sales page designer and course creator Kate Scott to unpack what really makes a sales page convert (and what most people are getting wrong).
Here’s your teaching-style deep dive, especially if you’re a course creator trying to DIY your own page.
Your sales page is the place people go when they’re deciding whether or not to buy your course. Even if they heard about it on Instagram, through email or from a friend, most of the decision-making happens on this one page.
And if the design is clunky, the copy is hard to read, or it feels overwhelming… they’ll likely click away, even if your course is the exact thing they need.
Key takeaway: Your sales page is not just a formality. It’s a core part of your marketing strategy and deserves your attention.
One of the biggest myths out there? That a sales page can be “too long.”
Kate shared something super helpful: it’s not that long pages are bad… it’s that badly structured long pages are. People aren’t reading every word — they’re scanning. So make it easy for them.
Tips:
Key takeaway: If your copy is solid, spread it out and format it so people can actually absorb it.
Designers know this trick: alternating layouts keeps the page feeling fresh and engaging.
Instead of left-text/right-image over and over, try switching it up:
This is especially important on mobile, where identical stacked layouts can get monotonous fast.
Key takeaway: Changing your layout structure creates rhythm and keeps users scrolling.
Want people to click your buttons? Stop using five different colours for them.
Kate recommends choosing ONE brand colour that becomes your “action colour” — the consistent cue that tells your audience, “this is clickable.”
Use it for:
This creates clarity and trains your audience to take action without confusion.
Key takeaway: Consistency builds trust — one colour = one action = more clicks.
Too often, people slap a testimonial carousel on their page and call it a day. But testimonials can do SO much more if you use them strategically.
Try this:
Key takeaway: Testimonials aren’t just proof — they’re persuasion. Place and display them wisely.
That very top section of your sales page? It matters a lot. Kate calls it your hook moment.
Here’s what it needs:
Pro tip: If you’re using a sticky countdown bar, make sure it’s easy to close on mobile so it doesn’t get annoying.
Key takeaway: Above the fold sets the tone. Make it clear, bold, and benefit-driven.
Kate’s number one tip? Start with your copy.
Before diving into Canva or a website builder, write your words. Once you know what you want to say and the flow it needs to take, THEN you can bring it to life visually.
Key takeaway: Strategy first, visuals second. Your message should drive the design — not the other way around.
