DM automation is when someone comments a specific word on your post (like “Canva” or “Templates”) and instantly gets a message from you with the freebie or link you promised. It’s a total game-changer because:

You stay front-of-mind without manually replying to every comment

My Go-To Tool: ManyChat

I use ManyChat to set all of this up. And trust me, once it’s in place, it runs like magic. I’m talking:

1. Comment-triggered messages
2. Lead magnet delivery
3. Email address collection (yes, in the DMs)
4. Connection with my email platform (Kartra) via Zapier

Why I Don’t Feel “Icky” Using Automation

I get it. Automation can feel… icky. Especially if you’re someone (like me!) who values real connection. But here’s how I keep it heart-led:

1. I don’t say it’s personally me replying (unless it is!)
2. I DO personally reply if someone responds back with a question outside the automation
3. I see automation as supportive, not sneaky (meaning people can get what they need quickly without waiting on me).

Quick Automations vs. Full Funnels

My two go-to ways of DM automation:

1. Quick Setup: Send a link when someone comments. Perfect for templates, podcast episodes, or masterclasses.

2. Full Funnel Flow: Collect name + email in the DMs, tag them in ManyChat, trigger a Zap that adds them to your CRM, and kick off an email nurture sequence.

This is what I did to get over 220 leads from one Instagram post — lots while I was asleep!
