Don’t get me wrong, Instagram is fabulous for visibility and engagement, but… (drum roll, please) you need an email list too. Emails are where the magic happens—the high engagement rates, the personal touch, and longer customer relationships. Think of Instagram as an appetiser that leads your audience to the main course: your email list!
Want to know how to transform those Instagram followers into email list subscribers (aka. where email open rates are far higher than Instagram views)? Charlyn’s strategy is as slick as it sounds: Lead Magnets. These juicy chunks of goodness offer immense value to your audience and solve a specific problem they have. You could do anything from PDFs and checklists to quizzes and webinars—get creative! The key is to ensure that these lead magnets are compelling enough for your audience to exchange their precious email addresses.
One game-changing tool mentioned by Charlyn is ManyChat, which can automate the lead magnet delivery process and manage initial interactions. This is particularly useful if you have a global audience in different timezones so you can’t always personally message back straight away or are balancing multiple responsibilities (aren’t we all?).
Even if you use ManyChat to initialise the conversation – don’t be afraid to go in afterwards and message them personally! Initial personalised engagement can significantly enhance customer relationships and differentiate you from the competition.
Once you have an email list, Charlyn recommends implementing a welcome sequence. This is a series of emails that introduces new subscribers to your brand and builds a foundation of trust. Here’s a simple structure you can follow:
It’s easy to fall into the trap of getting bored with your lead magnets, but Charlyn cautions against changing successful strategies out of boredom. Instead, she suggests rotating and periodically updating your lead magnets to keep your audience engaged. Try pinned a post about your leadmagnet on your Instagram so it’s easy for people to find! Also use link stickers in Instagram stories and adding the link to download to your Instagram bio links.
Finally, Charlyn stresses the importance of monitoring your business metrics. What content performs well? What engages your audience? Use these insights to refine your strategies. Consistent sharing and integrating feedback can help you stay effective and relevant.
