I’m pumped to share a major milestone with you – last week I hit the 10-year mark in my business journey! It’s been a wild ride, and to celebrate, I’ve recorded a special episode where I share my experiences and learnings in the hope that it will help you on your own biz journey.
In this episode/blog post, I dive into how I started as a graphic designer and transformed into the go-to person for teaching online business owners how to create their own brand and graphics. From taking on any and all opportunities to discovering my niche and pursuing what I love, I’ve come a long way, and I’m stoked about where the journey has led me.
Here are some key takeaways from the episode, along with practical tips based on my experiences:
1. Embrace Opportunities and Refine Later:
In the early stages of my business, I embraced any and all opportunities that came my way. Gaining experience and understanding my preferences helped me discover my niche and passion over time.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to take on diverse projects initially, as this can help you find your niche and grow your skills.
2. Educate Yourself Continuously:
Investing in my knowledge and skills through free and paid content, such as podcasts, Instagram, and online courses, has been invaluable for my growth as an entrepreneur.
Tip: Dedicate time each week to consume relevant content and stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
3. Seek Coaching and Mentorship:
Getting a business coach has played a transformative role in my entrepreneurial journey. Tip: Consider seeking out mentors and coaches who can provide guidance and support as you navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.
4. Build Meaningful Connections:
Establishing connections with fellow business owners and strategically growing my email list has been crucial for nurturing a community around my business.
Tip: Engage in networking events, online communities, and social media platforms to build valuable connections and grow your audience.
5. Confidence in Your Message:
Knowing and confidently sharing my message has been crucial for establishing my brand and resonating with my audience.
Tip: Take the time to define your business’s message and values, and consistently communicate them across your marketing efforts.
6. Diversify Revenue Streams: Exploring multiple avenues for generating income, such as creating online courses, and digital products, has been key for my business.
Tip: Be open to diversifying your revenue streams but commit to nurturing and promoting each new avenue for success, rather than always chopping and changing before any see success.
7. Maintain Work-Life Balance:
Prioritising what’s important in life, to maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life, has been essential for my overall well-being.
Tip: Set boundaries and carve out dedicated time for personal well-being and family (or whatever is important to you), ensuring that your business supports you, rather than ruling your life.
8. Professional Branding:
Establishing a professional brand and graphics has built trust and credibility for my business from the start.
Tip: Invest in professional branding and design to create a polished and consistent brand image across all touchpoints with your audience. You might do this through learning DIY in my DIY Design My Biz course OR hiring a professional through our studio.
9. Resilience and Persistence:
Embracing setbacks and learning to move forward has been essential for my long-term success.
Tip: Know that EVERY business owner, even the successful ones you look up to, still have days where things get hard and they want to give up. It’s pushing through these days/seasons that will set you a part!
10. Clarity of Message:
Having a clear business message has helped me resonate with my audience and build brand loyalty.
Tip: Continuously refine and communicate your business’s message to connect with your target audience.
Phew! I hope my 10 lessons over 10 years in business can help you in your own biz journey.
Remember though, the entrepreneurial journey is unique for everyone, and my story won’t be the same as yours.
Thanks for being part of this journey with me, and here’s to your own success in all your business ventures.
